Versatile domain: 29 green runs for learners, 58 comfortable blue runs, 85 red technical pistes with good pitch, 8 demanding blacks.

World-class racing: Hahnenmoos is the official downhill piste where Olympic champions train. Public access to the race line (except week prior to competition).

Family-friendly: Progressive terrain from village (1,350m) with multiple descent options by level.

Recommended level:

• Green: absolute beginners
• Blue: beginner–intermediate
• Red: intermediate–advanced (majority of domain)
• Black: advanced technical

Pistes and highlighted zones

Hahnenmoos (2,002m) — THE PISTE

World-class racing descent. 3,500 metres long, 500m vertical drop. Technical red pistes, natural moguls in spring. Direct cable car from Adelboden village (15 min).

Public access all winter except competition week (mid-January). The atmosphere is professional: technical skiers, coaches observing lines, TV cameras.

Slalomabfahrt (slalom descent)

Parallel to Hahnenmoos but more technical. Marked moguls, aggressive terrain. Ideal for skiers who enjoy the technical challenge.

Wiriehorn (2,362m)

Mixed cable car (Adelboden–Wiriehorn). High-altitude zone with varied pistes. Panoramic views of Wildstrubel and Bernese Oberland. Intermediate–advanced terrain.

Lenk–Hahnenmoos (Lenk side)

200+ metres altitude difference. Connection to 4 Vallées potential future link. Currently parallel domain but connected (Bahn Botschen connects both sides).

Tschentenhütte

Refuge at 2,050m. Sun terrace, fondue, typical Swiss atmosphere. Access via Tschenten cable car. Mandatory family stopping point.

Bars and atmosphere:

• Rössli — traditional bar, Guinness on tap, local clientele pre-ski

• Berghaus Tschentenhütte (on mountain, 2,050m) — fondue, raclette, Wildstrubel views

General atmosphere: Authentic Swiss village. Clientele: Swiss, serious skiers from Germany, some British families. NOT a “party capital” but friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

How to get there

Village access: Central train station. Public car park nearby (10 CHF/day). Free local bus for hotel guests.

Tip: DO NOT hire a car for skiing. Train + village bus sufficient. Mountain roads can close in heavy snow.

Accommodation

Location: Village centre 5–10 min walk from Hahnenmoos and Wiriehorn cable cars. Ski schools operate from village centre.

Scibasku recommendation: Stay IN the village, not on outskirts. Atmosphere, restaurants, social life is in the centre.

Skiing with children and families

Excellent family destination. 29 green pistes + 58 blue runs = 87 easy pistes. Quality ski schools (Swiss Ski School Adelboden). Childcare integrated in Schweizerhof hotel.

Ages:

• 3–5: controlled ski zone, private lessons recommended
• 6–10: rapid progression on blues, Hahnenmoos as goal
• 11+: technical skiing, challenge on reds, participation in “racing ski” (simulated slalom)

Distractions: Sledging, ice skating (Olympic racing track nearby in St. Moritz), winter hiking routes (snowshoes).

Best time to visit

Optimal window: January–February.

Special event: Mid-January (around 15th) — Hahnenmoos Descent (Lauberhorn for Wengen, but Hahnenmoos has similar presence). If travelling that week, expect crowds.
