Summary
Grand Massif is one of the 10 largest ski domains in France: 265 km of pistes and around 62 lifts spread across 5 linked resorts — Flaine, Les Carroz, Morillon, Samoëns and Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval. Located in the Giffre valley (Haute-Savoie), halfway between Geneva and Chamonix.
The domain stands out for its balanced mix of levels (25 green + 59 blue = 60% easy/intermediate pistes) and a vertical drop of 1,800 m, with views of Mont Blanc from the high altitudes of Flaine. It is the ideal domain for families and intermediate skiers who want variety without the overcrowding of Les 3 Vallées or Paradiski.

Why ski here
1. 265 km with the best balance of levels 60% of the pistes are green or blue — ideal for advancing families and intermediate skiers who want to progress without pressure. The 44 red and 11 black pistes keep things interesting for advanced skiers.
2. 1 hour from Geneva Accessibility from Geneva (1-1.5h) is exceptional. For the Spanish market flying into Geneva, it is a direct alternative to Portes du Soleil with less overcrowding.
3. Views of Mont Blanc From the high altitudes of Flaine (2,500 m), spectacular panoramas of the Mont Blanc massif. A combination of landscape and skiing that is hard to beat.
4. Villages with soul Samoëns has the “Ville et Métiers d’Art” label and an alpine botanic garden. Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval sits beside the Glacial Cirque (UNESCO Heritage). These are real mountain villages, not artificial resorts.
5. 14 fun zones Fun areas and snowparks spread throughout the domain — families with children find entertainment in every sector.

Scibasku’s tip
We have not skied here personally. Information sheet based on verified sources.
Grand Massif is Scibasku’s recommendation for intermediate families flying into Geneva: 265 km, 60% easy pistes, charming villages (Samoëns), and without the overcrowding of the mega-domains. It is the “open secret” of the French Alps.
Strategy: Base yourself in Samoëns or Les Carroz (village with life). Ski 2-3 days on the home domain, 1 day at Flaine (high altitudes, better snow). If you have days left over: Chamonix is 45 minutes away.
For families with children: Morillon is the quietest and most economical base. The 14 fun zones keep the little ones entertained.
