Via Lattea (Milky Way) is one of Europe’s largest ski domains: 400 km of pistes and 70 lifts connecting five Italian resorts (Sestriere, Sauze d’Oulx, Sansicario, Claviere, Cesana) with the French Montgenèvre in a cross-border circuit.

Host to the alpine events of the Turin 2006 Winter Olympics, the domain stands out for its 220 km of red (intermediate) pistes, larch forests for freeride and a lively après-ski scene, especially in Sauze d’Oulx.

Why ski here

Après-ski and dining

Sauze d’Oulx is the centre of nightlife: lively bars, British and international crowd. Sestriere quieter and more sports-focused. Piedmont cuisine: agnolotti, brasato al Barolo, fonduta, grissini. Excellent value for money in restaurants.

Via Lattea is my recommendation for groups of friends and intermediate skiers chasing maximum mileage at the best price. 400 km for ~65€ is unbeatable. Sauze for nightlife, Sestriere for serious skiing, Claviere to cross into France. Easy access from Turin. Ideal 5-7 nights.
