Why ski here
1. Eiger, Mönch, Jungfrau: the sacred trinity No other ski domain in the world has a comparable backdrop. The north face of the Eiger — the most famous wall in mountaineering — sits literally in front of the pistes.
2. Lauberhorn: 4.5 km of World Cup racing Wengen’s downhill race (January) is the longest in the World Cup circuit. Visitors can ski the piste — a memorable experience.
3. Trains as ski infrastructure Historic cog railways, Eiger Express (modern cable car), train to Jungfraujoch (3,454 m, “Top of Europe”). Trains are not just transport — they’re part of the experience.
4. Wengen and Mürren: car-free villages Both are pedestrian-only, accessible only by train or cable car. No traffic, no noise. Skiing as in the 19th century but with 21st-century lifts.
5. Piz Gloria (Schilthorn, 2,970m) The revolving restaurant where James Bond On Her Majesty’s Secret Service (1969) was filmed. 360° panorama over Eiger, Mönch, Jungfrau. Descent from the summit to Mürren.
