Summary
Ischgl is two things at once: a first-rate ski resort (239 km, 46 lifts, 90% of the domain above 2,000 m) and the world capital of après-ski (Top of the Mountain concerts, Trofana Tenne, partying until dawn). The Silvretta Arena domain crosses the border into Samnaun (Switzerland), where there is also duty-free shopping.
With 1,100 snow cannons complementing exceptional altitude, the season runs from late November through early May — one of the longest in Austria.

Why ski here
1. 239 km with 90% above 2,000m Altitude guarantees exceptional conditions. Long pistes (up to 11 km), well-groomed, predominantly north-facing. Classic carving terrain.
2. Cross-border Austria-Switzerland Breakfast in Austria, lunch in Samnaun (Switzerland). The lift pass covers both sides. In Samnaun: duty-free shopping (tobacco, alcohol, perfumes).
3. World-class après-ski Ischgl is not ordinary après-ski. The Top of the Mountain concerts (season opening and closing) have brought Elton John, Robbie Williams, Kylie Minogue. Trofana Tenne is a piste-side nightclub. Kitzloch starts the party at 3 p.m.
4. Snow from November to May Altitude + 1,100 cannons = the longest season in western Tyrol. In April, when other resorts close, Ischgl is still in full swing.
Pistes and highlighted zones
Piz Val Gronda (2,872m)
The summit of the domain. 360° views over Ötztal, Engadin and Silvretta. Technical descents on the north face.
Patteriol (2,802m)
Base of night skiing: 1,000 m of lit descent. Unique experience — music rises by cable car, controlled party atmosphere on the mountain.
Samnaun (Swiss side)
Swiss village at 1,850 m. Different landscape, different air, duty-free shopping. Access by cable car from the Ischgl domain.
Greithspitze (2,764m)
Red-blue intermediate terrain. Glacial views towards Ötztal. Wide pistes for carving.

Après-ski
Ischgl is, alongside St. Anton, the epicentre of après-ski in the Alps:

- Niki’s Stadl — Live music, dancing
- Pacha Ischgl — Nightclub (Ibiza franchise)
Events: Top of the Mountain Festival (season opening and closing) — free concerts on the piste.

Scibasku’s tip
We haven’t skied here personally. Fact sheet based on verified sources.
Ischgl is for those who want serious skiing + serious partying in the same package. 239 km of excellently prepared pistes by day, and one of the most intense nightlife atmospheres in the Alps come nightfall.
Works well if: 25-45 years old, group of friends, skiing + partying, mid-to-high budget. Doesn’t work if: you’re after peace and quiet, travelling with small children, tight budget.
Must-do:
- Night skiing at Patteriol (iconic experience)
- Cross into Samnaun for lunch in Switzerland
- At least one afternoon at Trofana Tenne or Kitzloch
Best time: January-February (snow + fewer crowds). March-April for long days + night skiing.
