Tignes–Val d’Isère (historically “Espace Killy”) is France’s most demanding and high-altitude ski domain: 300 km of pistes between 1,550m and 3,456m (Grande Motte), with two skiable glaciers and one of the longest seasons in the Alps (November–May).
The domain combines Val d’Isère (charming village, World Cup pistes Face de Bellevarde) with Tignes (altitude stations at 2,100m, Grande Motte glacier, younger vibe and freeride focus). The density of red and black pistes makes it especially appealing for strong skiers.

Why ski here
1. Two glaciers, seven-month season Grande Motte (3,456m) and Pisaillas allow skiing from November through May. Snow guaranteed even in weak seasons.
2. Face de Bellevarde: World Cup Val d’Isère’s Olympic piste (Albertville 1992, Worlds 2009). One of the most technical and famous runs on the FIS circuit.
3. World-class freeride Vast off-piste terrain accessible from the lifts. Couloirs, gullies and steep faces in the Tignes sector. Europe’s freeride benchmark.
4. High altitude = powder With villages at 2,100m and pistes to 3,456m, snowfall produces quality powder. One of the Alps’ most reliable domains for powder days.

Giora’s advice
Tignes–Val d’Isère is my recommendation for strong skiers and freeriders seeking high altitude, guaranteed snow and demanding terrain. Not for beginners or families with small children (try Paradiski or La Plagne instead). Val d’Isère for après-ski and village life, Tignes Val Claret for altitude and glacier. Minimum 5–7 nights.
