Located on the Tarentaise plateau (2,100m village), La Plagne is a modern, efficient resort, ideal for intermediate families and large groups seeking exploration without the complexity of terraced resorts. Easy connection to Les Arcs for a change of scenery.

Skiing type and level

Varied alpine: Broad green and blue runs connected. Balanced reds. Technical blacks in select zones.

Families: Excellent. Modular infrastructure (separate resorts: Belle-Plagne, Aime-la-Plagne, Montchavin, Paradiski 1800). Professional schools, nurseries, continuous entertainment. Less concentrated than Val Thorens.

Slopestyle: Designated zones for natural freestyle.

Exploration: Paradiski circuit viable in 1-2 days. Easy change of scenery to Les Arcs.

Recommended level:

• Beginner for greens/blues
• Intermediate for varied reds
• Intermediate-advanced for blacks

Belle-Plagne Center

Modular resort, shops, school, nurseries. Central operational hub.

Les Arcs access

Transarc cable car connects directly. Change of scenery in 15 minutes. Continuous exploration possible.

Après-ski and restaurants

Bars: L’Atelier (après-ski epicentre, happy hour, live music), Altitude (modern cocktails), Piano Bar (casual jazz).

Restaurants: Le Vieux Chalet (regional Savoyard), Racletterie du Soleil (fondue-raclette), Le Trappeur (casual grill).

Atmosphere: French, family-oriented. Mix of families, groups, intermediate skiers. Less cosmopolitan than Courchevel, more genuine.

Hub: Chambéry (100km, 1h45).

Accommodation

Location: Modular resorts (Belle-Plagne, Aime, Montchavin) at different altitudes. Functional 1970s-80s architecture. All slope-side.

Skiing with children and families

Excellent for families. Resort modularity allows separation if preferred. Certified nurseries from 18 months. Schools from age 3. Entertainment: shops, cinemas, heated aquatic pools, saunas, children’s animation.

Family strategy: 6-7 nights. Base in Belle-Plagne. Children with morning lessons. Parents ski. Afternoon: together on blues or park. 1 day in Les Arcs with family.

• Vs. Les 3 Vallées: less volume, more modular, less prestige
• Vs. Val Thorens: lower base altitude, less snow guarantee in transition seasons
• Vs. Chamonix: no freeride, but superior infrastructure for families
