Katschberg is a high-altitude resort village on the Katschberghöhe Pass, the divide between Carinthia and Salzburg’s Lungau. Its 80 km of pistes are split between two mountains, one on each side of the pass: Aineck (2,220 m, the resort’s summit) and Tschaneck. You stay up here, between the two, in hotels right on the pistes.

It is a resort with strong family orientation and a clear predominance of red runs: 56 of its 80 km. Anyone skiing parallel turns with confidence will find their natural terrain here; the spread is completed with 12 km of blues and 12 km of blacks.

And the logistics are straightforward: direct access via the Tauern motorway (A10). No endless mountain passes or narrow valley roads — straight from the motorway to the resort village.

Why ski here

1. Sleep on the pass, ski two mountains. The resort village sits at the top of Katschberghöhe with piste-side hotels: you put your skis on at the door and choose your side — Aineck or Tschaneck.
2. 56 km of reds. The bulk of the resort is red piste: terrain to ski with rhythm, ideal for intermediates wanting quality kilometres.
3. Very family-friendly. The resort is designed for families — manageable scale, everything within reach, no complicated internal transfers.
4. Getting there is easy. The Tauern A10 drops you at the pass. For anyone driving from Salzburg or into Carinthia, few Austrian resorts are easier to explain.

• Families wanting a piste-side hotel and everything on hand, no car needed during the week
• Intermediate skiers: 56 km of reds are the resort’s backbone
• Anyone driving the A10 who wants straightforward logistics

It doesn’t work if:

• You’re after a huge resort or extreme skiing — 80 km, with only 12 km of blacks
• You want a big town with urban nightlife: this is a mountain resort village, up on the pass

The detail that matters: sleeping at altitude, on the pass itself, changes your week — you get up early at the foot of the lifts and the snow at your hotel door isn’t the same as the snow at the bottom of the valley.
