The domain spans 180 km of pistes (132 km interconnected) with 38 lifts. Whilst other Italian domains compete on distance, Monterosa competes on vertical and off-piste terrain: Punta Indren opens the door to high mountain descents between glaciers and couloirs that draw freeriders from across Europe.

Why Ski Here

1. Punta Indren: high mountain freeride From 3,275m, access to off-piste descents of 2,000+ m vertical between Monte Rosa glaciers. Italy’s freeride mecca, with specialist local guides.

2. Three valleys, three characters Champoluc (most complete, best infrastructure), Gressoney (elegant, panoramic) and Alagna (wild, pure freeride). Each valley has its own personality.

3. 2,063m of vertical gain Amongst the greatest skiable verticals in the Alps. Long, varied descents from high glacier terrain to valley forests.

4. Alpine authenticity Walser villages with traditional architecture. No overcrowding or excessive tourist development. Skiing as it was 30 years ago, with modern lifts.

Quiet, mountaineering atmosphere. Aosta Valley and Piedmont gastronomy: fonduta, polenta concia, mocetta, lardo d’Arnad. More mountain refuges than après-ski bars. Champoluc has slightly more nightlife.

Monterosa is my recommendation for freeriders and advanced skiers seeking authentic high mountain skiing. Punta Indren with a guide is a life experience. For piste skiers, the domain works too, but it’s not its strong suit. Base yourself in Champoluc for comfort, Alagna for adventure.
