Overview

Alta Badia is the gastronomic heart of the Dolomites and one of four valleys in the Sella Ronda. With 130 km of pistes between 1,324m and 2,778m served by 53 lifts, the domain connects six Ladin villages: Corvara, La Villa, San Cassiano, Colfosco, Badia and La Val.

The area is world-famous for its concentration of gourmet mountain restaurants — with Ladin, Italian and Tyrolean cuisine at the highest level — and for the Gran Risa World Cup piste (giant slalom). It is perhaps the best destination in the Alps for those who value both skiing and dining equally.

Why ski here

1. Gastronomic capital of the Dolomites Alta Badia has the highest concentration of high-level gourmet mountain restaurants in the Alps. Ladin cuisine with local produce, several rifugios recognised internationally. San Cassiano is home to one of Italy’s highest Michelin-starred restaurants.

2. Sella Ronda from the heart Direct access to the Sella Ronda from Corvara and Colfosco. Central location that allows you to explore Val Gardena, Arabba and Val di Fassa on separate days.

3. 130 km of accessible skiing Predominantly blue and red terrain, ideal for families and intermediate skiers. Wide, well-groomed pistes with spectacular views of Sassongher, Lagazuoi and Conturines.

4. World Cup: Gran Risa The Gran Risa piste in La Villa hosts the FIS World Cup giant slalom. Demanding gradients for advanced skiers.

Après-ski and dining

More gastronomically focused than party-oriented atmosphere. On-piste rifugios are the star: Ladin cuisine (canederli, cajincí, strudel), Italian dishes, South Tyrolean wine list. Moderate après-ski in Corvara with several lively bars.

How to get there

Giora’s tip

Alta Badia is my recommendation for gourmet couples and families with discerning palates. If the table matters as much as the piste, there is no better destination in the Alps. Corvara for optimal piste access, San Cassiano for premium gastronomic experience. Combine with Val Gardena (Sella Ronda) for 7+ nights.
