Summary

Alpe d’Huez is the “island of the sun” of the French Alps: 300 days of sunshine per year, 250 km of pistes between 1,500m and 3,330m (Pic Blanc) and a skier’s vertical drop of 1,830m. The Grand Domaine Ski connects Alpe d’Huez with Auris, Oz, Vaujany and Villard-Reculas in a varied and panoramic circuit.

The resort is celebrated for La Sarenne, Europe’s longest black run (16 km of continuous descent from Pic Blanc), and for its 21 legendary hairpins from the Tour de France stage.

Giora’s tip

Alpe d’Huez is my recommendation for skiers of all levels seeking sunshine, great vertical and iconic pistes. La Sarenne is essential. The constant sun makes it especially appealing for Spanish skiers accustomed to good weather. Vaujany for families, Alpe d’Huez for social life.
