Summary

Skicircus is one of Austria’s largest ski domains: 270 km of pistes and 69 lifts connecting four villages — Saalbach, Hinterglemm, Leogang and Fieberbrunn. The name “Skicircus” comes from the possibility of doing a complete circuit around the valley, a ski safari that passes through all four villages without repeating a piste.

The domain is extraordinarily well balanced: 140 km of easy pistes (52%), 112 km intermediate (41%), only 18 km difficult (7%). This makes it a paradise for families and intermediate skiers. But the après-ski in Saalbach is among Austria’s most lively, so groups of friends will also find their place.

Just 1.5h from Salzburg, it’s one of the Alps’ most accessible large domains.

Why ski here

1. 270 km for all levels With 52% easy pistes and 41% intermediate, it’s the perfect domain for families progressing and mixed-ability groups. Advanced skiers will find a challenge in Fieberbrunn (Freeride World Tour).

2. The Ski Safari circuit The “Skicircus Challenge”: a circuit that loops around the entire valley passing through all 4 villages. Ski a full day in loop form, having lunch in a different village from your starting point. A memorable experience.

3. 1.5h from Salzburg 80 km from Salzburg airport. For Spanish visitors flying into Salzburg, it’s the quickest and most direct option to reach a large domain.

4. Après-ski with character Saalbach has a very lively après-ski but less “industrial” than Ischgl or St. Anton. Bars with personality, youthful atmosphere but not exclusively party-focused. The perfect mix of families by day and animation at night.

5. Fieberbrunn: gateway to freeride Fieberbrunn hosts the Freeride World Tour. Northwest aspect = fresher snow. For advanced skiers bored with blue runs, it’s the escape valve within the domain.

Schattberg (2,096m)

Skicircus Challenge

The full circuit: Saalbach → Hinterglemm → Leogang → Fieberbrunn → return. 65 km of linked pistes in a loop.

Nitro Snowpark (Leogang)

One of Austria’s best snowparks. Slopestyle, jibs, kickers for all levels.

Reiterkogel (Hinterglemm)

Night skiing zone. Floodlit pistes + festive atmosphere at the base.

Fieberbrunn Off-Piste

Freeride World Tour terrain. North-facing slopes with powder snow. Requires advanced level and local knowledge.

Accommodation

Saalbach for being in the centre of the action. Hinterglemm for families. Leogang for peace and the snowpark.

Après-ski

Saalbach has one of Austria’s liveliest après-ski scenes:

• Hinterhag Alm — Après from 2pm at the foot of the piste
• Bauer’s Schi-Alm — Terrace, beer, music
• Castello — Nightclub
• Goaßstall — Mountain bar with character

Skicircus is Giora’s recommendation for families and mixed-ability groups flying into Salzburg: 270 km, mostly easy/intermediate pistes, 4 connected villages, good après-ski, and only 1.5h from the airport.

Must-do:

• Do the Skicircus Challenge (full circuit, all day)
• If you have the level: a day in Fieberbrunn for freeride
• Afternoon après-ski at Hinterhag Alm

Strategy: 5-7 nights. Base in Saalbach (centre) or Hinterglemm (quieter). 4-5 days skiing, 1 day rest/excursion to Zell am See.
