Summary

Saint-Lary-Soulan is the most complete resort in the French Pyrenees: 100 km of pistes spread across three sectors (Pla d’Adet, Espiaube and Vallée du Rioumajou) above a charming thermal spa town at 830 m. For the Spanish client it is one of the strongest options on the French side — you reach it by road from Aragón and Catalonia, and it combines varied skiing with spa facilities, gastronomy and a real town.

It is not a mega-domain like those in Tarentaise: it is a human-scale, very family-friendly resort, with a lived-in old town (not a concrete resort) and a thermal spa — Sensoria Rio — that sets it apart from almost everything else in the Pyrenees.

Why ski here

1. The most complete Pyrenean resort on the French side Three connected sectors and 100 km of pistes for all levels, with good snow cover on Espiaube and long descents towards the valley.

2. A stone’s throw from Spain One of the most accessible French options by road from northern Spain. For a client from Aragón, Navarre or Catalonia, French skiing without flying.

3. Charming thermal spa town Saint-Lary is a real town, not a resort. Old town, restaurants and Sensoria Rio spa facilities to unwind after the pistes.

4. Very family-friendly Human scale, telecabine from town, relaxed atmosphere. Suits families and groups who do not want the stress of the big Alpine resorts.

Accommodation

Saint-Lary operates with residences and apartments (self-catering) more than large hotels — the ideal format for family and group. It is also an Odalys Vacances venue, so once the integration is complete you will have a stock of resort residences here available to book. (Pending connection with Odalys.)

Après-ski and gastronomy

More relaxed than in the Alps: après-ski here is the town, the spa and the dining table. Bigorre Pyrenean gastronomy — garbure, lamb, Pyrenean cheeses. Authentic mountain atmosphere and feel.

Giora’s advice

Saint-Lary is my recommendation for families and groups from northern Spain who want French skiing without flying: 100 km of varied terrain, a real town with spa and residence format so you can lodge with your own kitchen. Don’t expect the vertical of Les 2 Alpes or the buzz of Val Thorens — here the plan is to ski at your ease and experience the town. Ideal for 4-7 nights.
